Extreme Youth Ministry Team |
|
Our youth ministry participates in Impact Virginia each summer, a week-long work camp for youth. In 2009, seventeen youth and six adults participated in this camp which was based on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. They performed repair and renovation work on the homes of disadvantaged individuals and families. Also in 2009, we launched H.I.S. (Hearts In Service), an ongoing youth mission initiative within our local community. To date, H.I.S. has cut grass for a family going through medical adversity, held a work day at The Vine, a new church plant of the Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church, and held a work day at Camp Red Arrow. |

Wilderness Outreach Mission |
|
Many of our local efforts are coordinated by our Wilderness Outreach Mission (WOM) Team. - Annually, WOM conducts a spring and a fall food and clothing distribution which serves approximately 70 low-income or disadvantaged families in our community.
- Quarterly, teams from our church prepare and serve meals at the Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter.
- Each Thanksgiving, in partnership with McLean Bible Church and with financial support from the Ruritan Club, we provide Thanksgiving meal boxes to disadvantaged families in our community.
- Each Christmas, through our Angel Tree program, we provide Christmas gifts and grocery cards for disadvantaged families in our community.
- Recently, WOM has begun to coordinate our efforts to assist in the renovation of Camp Red Arrow, a former Redskins training facility which has been donated to a ministry to provide retreat and camping facilities for churches and other groups in our region.
- WOM also coordinates our participation in the Angel Food Ministry, an outreach which enables families to purchase quality food at approximately 50% of the cost. While individuals and families of any income level can participate, many of those who do participate are struggling in these difficult economic times. Through Angel Food, we also provide boxes of food to individuals and families who could not purchase food.
